Andy was the son of Catharine Butterfield and Joseph Johnson.

Andy married Sarah Alice Lewis on November 17, 1870. Sarah Alice preceeded Andy in death in 1897.
They were the parents of Blanche Catherine Johnson (Francis Ernest Will & Chauncey LeRoy Foreman), Clarence Joseph Johnson, Ernest Johnson and Cloyd Johnson.
