Durell and twin brother Lutrell were the youngest of 7 children. One sister and one brother died in childhood.
Durell's father, Joseph was a farmer, he joined the Ohio Volunteers and died in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on January 1, 1865. His death left Catherine, age 30 a widow with 22 month old twins and 3 children.
Durell married lovely Ida B. Ellis on August 2, 1885. They were the parents of one daughter, Zora K. Johnson born Oct 1887.
Durell was preceded in death by his wife Ida (Ellis) in 1899 and by his beloved mother and father. He was survived by his daughter Zora Johnson, step-father John Abraham Taylor, twin brother Lutrell Johnson (Florence A. Myers), Charles W. Johnson (Emma McElroy), Benjamin Fremont Johnson (Jessie Fremont Patton) and Andrew "Andy" Johnson (Mary Griggs, wife 1 and Sarah Alice Lewis wife 2), step brothers, Gilbert Joseph Taylor (Bertha Atchison) and Jasper Logan Taylor (Myrtle May Rigdon).

HALF BROTHER DIES
Durell Johnson, half brother of Jasper Taylor of this city, passed away at his home in Eden, Michigan last night after a very brief illness according to word recieved by relatives here Saturday.
The funeral services will be held at the home of his brother, Fremont Johnson at Reading, Mich. Sunday.
