November 1, 1891 Lutrell was united in marriage with Florence Myers, the daughter of Amelia Jane (Cochrun) and Jacob W. Myers. The marriage took place in Washington, Paulding, Ohio.
The family moved to Michigan in 1906.
Lutrell and Florence were the parents of 8 children: Valmer Fremont (Isabel McCrory) Johnson, Lois Farrol (Warren Gallaway), Gertrude May (Clare Watters), Gladys Lovetta (Harold B. Rhees), Hazel Rosetta (Reverend Charles Lee McCreery) and Dale Lutrell Johnson. Two children proceeded Lutrell in death, Eutha Iona Johnson in 1893 and Orlo Alfred Johnson in 1906.
