Newton first married Martha S. Dalrymple July 20, 1871 in Calhoun County, Alabama. Martha died October 9, 1905. The children of Newton and Martha are: Ida E., Nancy Ada, Julia Margaret, Tommie D., Carrie Wayne, Mamie, Sarah C., Oscar Newton and Gordon Elmo.

Newton married Sally D. Thompson September 11, 1906 in Franklin County, Texas. They had no children.

N. Patrick pioneer citizen and one of the best men in Greenwood community, died Monday night after an illness of only a few days from paralysis. He was 76 years old and had lived in Hopkins County for more than fifty years. he is survived by three daughters, as follows: Mrs. Walter Hogan, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Carrie Day and Mrs. Sid Bussey, Calif. Funeral services were held at Greenwood.
