Benjamin served in the Confederate army during the Civil War. He enlisted March 1, 1862, Co. I,10th Alabama and was wounded before September 1864. His wife, Belle, stated on her pension application, they married July 29, 1866, in DeKalb County, Alabama. He was a private/musician.

Obit Notice: Ben F. Patrick, 56 years old, died in home in the Greenwood community on Dec. 11, 1902. He was born Mar. 10, 1846, the son of Austin and Nancy Reed Patrick in Alabama. He served time in the Civil War replacing a wounded brother (Thomas Austin). He moved to Texas in a covered wagon in the early days. Survivors are his wife, Isabel, a daughter, Dora Horne, four sons, Jesse, Marcus, twin sons, James and Hardy Patrick. Burial in the Greenwood Cemetery.
