From Alabama Civil War Database: James M. Patrick, Company I, 10 Alabama Regiment, was wounded at the battle of Gaines Mill VA. His left leg was amputated above the knee. He file an application for artificial limb October 21, 1867.

January 3, 1889: J.M. Patrick died at his home near Gadsden on 5th of December 1888. He was born in Etowah County November 1841. He was a member of the 10th Alabama Regiment and of Company I in the late war. He lost a leg in the seven days battle of Richmond, Virginia on the 27th June 1862. Soon after the war he married Miss Lizzie Yeargin. She died on 13th July 1871. On the 31st January 1872 he married Miss M.C, Lovins. He was the father of 3 children by his first wife and three by his last wife. Brother Patrick was elected to the office of tax collector in the year 1875, which office he held for four successive terms. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
