Obit: Rudolf Hinkhouse was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Hinkhouse in Germany, September 2, 1877. He was one of eight children. He married Alwine Vorwald in Germany and four children were born to them before they left Germany. A three-month-old son preceded the parents in death. Mr. and Mrs. Hinkhouse and family, a sister and brother-in-law came to the United States in 1910, arriving in the Correctionville area October 10. Four of his brothers were already in this country. Rudolf and his family made their home with Frank Hinkhouse, who was unmarried. His wife and two single brothers passed away in 1947, after which time he made his home with his son, Rudolf Jr., until several months ago when his health began to fail and he moved to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Byers. He had been in the hospital four weeks before he passed away April 18, 1961. He enjoyed traveling and at the age of 70 flew to Germany for a visit. He has been affiliated with Salem Lutheran Church since his arrival in this country and was a member of the building committee when the present church was erected. Survivors include his daughter, Lottie Byers of Correctionville; two sons, William L. of Littleton, Colorado, and Rudolph of Correctionville; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, all of his brothers and sisters and a son. Services were held Friday, April 21, at Salem Lutheran Church with Dr. Fritschel officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, under direction of Wilson-Hull Funeral Home.
