He was the son of David Albert and Milla Ellen Lipe Lowrance. His parents are buried in Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, TX. Doby married Clara Amanda Holland 4 December 1904 in Leon Co, TX.

Funeral services for Doby Fletcher Lowrance, 68, Dallas contractor, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday and Lamar & Smith Chapel, 800 West Jefferson. Burial will by in Five Mile Cemetery. Lowrance died Friday at his home, 619 Archer. A native of Buffalo, Leon County, Lowrance had been a building contractor since 1905. He moved to Dallas in 1910 from Teague, Freestone County. In addition to homes and private buildings, Lowrance had built a number of schools and gymnasiums at Sadler, Florence Hill, Hamilton, Star, Lometa, Sachse, Pleasant Grove and Duncanville. He is survived by his wife; two sons, W.W. (Wickie) Lowrance and Cecil J. Lowrance, both of Dallas; three daughters, Mrs. Irma Lou Smith and Miss Beverly Jeanne Lowrance, both of Dallas, and Mrs. Harvey M. Gattis, Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Mrs. Byrdie Baker, Nixon, Gonzales County; Mrs. Emma Hutchison, Farmersville, Mrs. Etta Waltrip, Anthony, N.M.; three brother, Luther Lowrance, Houston; James Lowrance, Nixon, and W. Dee Lowrance, Kenedy, Karnes County; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be W.E. Mobley, Will Campbell, Elwood Bentley, Bill Moore, Jack Frost, and W.D. Johnson.
