John Snider and Delilah Beard were married in Fayette county Ohio 12 Jun 1820. In 1837 John Snider purchased IN, Allen twp 29N, 13E Sections 32 and 33, 1837 in Marion Twp and began to farm. The land John purchased is on the Allen / Wells county line, just south of the Poe cemetery. John was a postmaster at the Poughkeepsie, later Poe, post office. The Williamsport M.E. church was organized in 1842 and was held at the home of John Snider. The congregation grew and moved to a school house, but when the school burned down the congregation moved back to John Snider's house until a new school was built in 1864. John and Delilah had eleven children. David B., Sarah E., and Phylenia died young and are buried in the Poe cemetery. Elizabeth married Philip Snider and they are both buried in the Poe cemetery. Their other children were Maxenda, Mary Jane, Wm. Henry, Rachel, Evan, John Wesley, and Carlisle. In June 2010, John and Delila Snider became a First Family of Allen county in a meeting of the Allen County Genealogy Society. After Delilah died Feb. 9, 1862, John married Elizabeth, last name unknown. Elizabeth died September 1865. John then married Mary and she was still living in 1868 when John died.
