Johann Gottlieb Kaatz was known as John G Kaatz and is the son of Gottlieb Kaatz (1820-1870) and Henriette Mathwig (1824-).

He was baptized 21 APR 1851 in Posen, Preussen, Deutschland.

His parents, Gottlieb and Henrietta, arrived with sons Gottlieb, Hermann and William and daughter Augusta, departed Bremen, Germany on the Bark Theresa and arrived on 11 AUG 1865 in New York, New York. The passenger lists states they were headed to Illinois.

The 1870 US Census shows them all living and working on the family farm in Newton, Wisconsin.

On 20 APR 1874 in Crystal Lake, Marquette Co., Wisconsin, John G married Paulina Caroline Boelter at the Lutheran Church by Rev. M. STEINKE, and their witnesses were August BOLTER and Gottlob DONNING, Volume 2A, Number 20.

They has a son, John J Kaatz (1880-1945) who married Grace M. Reck (1879-1956)

Paulina died on 13 JAN 1885 in Newton, Wisconsin. (I haven not been able to determine where Pauline was buried, so that is why she isn't linked here on Find a Grave.)

On 19 MAR 1886 in Ripon, Wisconsin he and Emilie Carolina (Amelia) Schmudlach, daughter of John SCHMUDLACH and Caroline GUNTOFF, were married in a religious ceremony. WI Marriage Index: Vol. 04, Page: 0395.

They lived for a short while on the farm in Newton before moving to Coloma, Wisconsin and together they had 14 children.

*Their graves are located in front of their daughters, Marie and Ella. Both women were divorced and didn't want to be buried with their ex husbands.
