Fumes Kill Wing Garageman
Father of 2, 24, Loses Life to Gas
Wing - A 24-year-old Wing man was killed by carbon monoxide gas Monday in the machine shop he operated at Wing.
Martin LeRoy Bucholz, the father of two young sons, was discovered dead about 8:45 a.m. by one of his employees, Henry Wainio.
Dr. L. W. Larson, Burleigh County coroner, said the death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning and was "evidently accidental."
An investigation by Burleigh County authorities disclosed that Bucholz had gone to the B and B Machine Sales Co., which he operated, about 7:30 a.m. and had driven a pickup truck into the garage, apparently to repair it.
Deputy Sheriff Edwin Ebel said Bucholz was found lying across the seat of the truck face down. The garage doors were closed and the hood of the truck was open, Ebel said. He added that the ignition switch was turned on but the motor was off when Wainio arrived at the scene.
Wainio immediately notified Tony Roll, Wing city marshal, who in turn called Burleigh authorities in Bismarck.
A native North Dakotan, Bucholz had moved to Wing about a year ago and operated Bud's Cafe, in addition to the machine company. He was born Sept. 25, 1932, in rural Max, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bucholz.
In 1934 he moved to the Garrison community with his parents and in 1942, to the Regan area. He married Lois Hedstrom Aug. 26, 1951, at the Sunne Lutheran Church, near Wilton. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Wilton.
Besides his widow, he leaves two sons, Greg Marlin, 5, and Ricky Lynn, 2 1/2; his parents at Regan, three brothers, Melvin Bucholz, Wilton, and Vernon and Jerry Bucholz, both of Regan and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Adeline) Jennings, Washburn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Sunne Lutheran Church by the Rev. George Olson and the Rev. Jack Hill. Interment will be made in Sunne Cemetery.
The body is at the Boelter Funeral Home in Bismarck.
