A son of Maurice A. and Kathryn D. Paul Short, he married Betty Read married Dec. 20, 1948. He and Marguerite Hazzard were married in 1969. Short worked for the U.S. Department of Defense in St. Louis 18 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served 20 years, retiring in 1959 as a captain. Survivors include a daughter and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. (Southeast Missourian 8/10/07)
