Funeral services for Joe Gideon, 81, of Poynor were held Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Frankston with the Rev. Jeff Godwin and Rev. Fred Neal officiating.

Burial was in the Leagueville Cemetery near Leagueville under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.

Mr. Gideon died Friday, April 8, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born July 28, 1912 in LaRue and had lived in Poynor for 57 years.

Mr. Gideon was a heavy machine operator and a member of the First Baptist Church of Poynor.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Mae Gideon of Poynor; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sandra Jo Gideon of Frankston; two sisters, Willie Terrell of LaRue and Mable Costlow of Chandler; three grandchildren, Pat Ludwig, Gail Feagans and husband Brad, and David Gideon and wife, Theresa; 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were C.L. Gideon, Coy Terrell, John Terrell, Freeman Terrell, Rex Terrell, Gary Costlow, Gaylon Costlow and Milton Hopson.

Honorary pallbearers were M.M. Butler, Dan Wicker, John Robert Pagitt and Charlie Pagitt.
