Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. J T Jernigan, 73, at the Boma Baptist Church, conducted by Rev Hugh J May. Burial was in the Smellage Cemetery. Mrs. Jernigan had been in failing health for many years, but her sudden death came as a shock to her family and friends in Double Springs.
She became a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church at the age of 11, and lived a devoted Christian life until death.
She is survived by one son and 8 daughters: Grady of Boma; Mrs W F Boyd of Boma; Mrs W C Moss of Chattanooga; Mrs. Larkin Maynard of Ensor; Mrs. Virgie Beard of Chattanooga; Mrs. H H Martin of Nashville; Mrs. Deaver Allison of Detroit; Mrs Avo Loftis and Mrs Walter Maxwell of Double Springs.
Her father was Esquire Looney Thompson Jr. and her mother was Naomie Avo Jared Thompson. She was the mother of one son Grady Jernigan and nine daughters. One daughter died in infancy (Irma). She was the wife of John Tilford Jernigan.
