Robert Bruce Braddy was born in South Carolina on December 11th 1831 to parents Martha Bethea and John Braddy.

When Robert was 22 he married 21 year old bride Miss Flora Ann McKay on September 28th 1854 in South Carolina.

They had one daughter, Martha Braddy. Unfortunatly wife Flora Ann died when she was just 23 in June 28th 1856 after just a few short years of marriage.

The Civil War broke out some 5 years later in 1861 and Robert joined as a 1st Lieutenant in the Confederate States Army (CSA) entering Company H, 1st South Carolina Rifles in 1861. Robert was promoted to Captain on January 1st 1862 but resigned in late 1862 due to gout. Later he recovered and rejoined the CSA in 1863 joining Company B, in Tucker's Cavalry and again later in Company F, 7th SC Cavalry. He was 33 when the end of the war came in April of 1865.

A Civil War Veteran and after almost 10 years as a widower, when he was 34 years old, he married again on January 17, 1866, to his 2nd wife, 21 year old bride Miss Annie Ellis Wishart.

They would be blessed with several children: Robert, John, Hattie, Dora, Mary, Thaddeus and Babe.

His 36 year old wife Annie died on December 31, 1881 after almost 15 years of marriage and 7 children leaving him widowed for a second and final time.

He died at his daughter Hattie's home in Galivants Ferry, Horry County, South Carolina on February 3rd 1901 when he was 69 years old. He is buried in the Braddy family plot in Sweet Swamp Cemetery in Dillon county South Carolina.
