Alice M. Slotevig, age 74, of Baldwin, formerly of Knapp, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Baldwin Care Center in Baldwin.
Alice was born March 15, 1934 in Dunnville, Wisconsin to Arthur and Velma (Bailey) Backen. She was raised in the Dunnville area. At the age of 16 she came down with polio. She was told she would never walk but Alice proved them wrong.
Alice married John Slotevig on October 15, 1954 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. She worked for a time at a grocery store and canning company in Menomonie. Alice was active in 4-H, homemakers and Legion auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, trips to Las Vegas and bingo. Every Mother's Day she spent fishing with John and family members
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Alvin and Ervin.
Alice is survived by her husband John of Baldwin; children Steve Slotevig of Hudson, Diane Gedatus and husband Dave of Woodville, Donna Montbriand of Stillwater, Minnesota, Lori Slotevig and fiancé Jeff Pickergen and Sandra Anderson and husband Bruce of Baldwin; nine grandchildren, Stuart Slotevig, Joseph Slotevig, Michael Slotevig, Jason Gedatus and wife Melissa, Jordan Gedatus, Alissa Montbriand, Broc Montbriand, Casey and Jonathan Anderson. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday May 19, 2008 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Glenwood City, with Reverend Ralph Thompson officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery of Glenwood City.
