He is survived by his wife, Carol, a son, Larry, and a daughter, Kathy all of Prosser, Washington; his mother, Mrs. Lewis Bolles, Menomonie; and a sister, Alice, (Mrs. John Slotvig), Wilson.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21 at Riverview Cemetery, the Rev. Robert E. Johnson officiated.
The Goodrich Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ervin is the son of Arthur and Velma Backen and the grandson of Ole and Anna (Brostrom) Backen and the great grandson of Nicholas and Louisa (Dahlberg) Brostrom. His grandparents and great grandparents immigrated from Sweden. Ervin is the 2nd Cousin of Robert Fagerlind who married Carol Strayer's 3rd Cousin Elmonda Johnson.
Ervin served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII.
