Ervin Eugene Backen, 35, Waterloo, Iowa, a former resident of the Downsville area, was drowned in the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sunday August 18.
The son of Arthur and Velma Backen, he was born September 16, 1927 in Downsville. In 1961 he married Carol Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, a son, Larry, and a daughter, Kathy all of Prosser, Washington; his mother, Mrs. Lewis Bolles, Menomonie; and a sister, Alice, (Mrs. John Slotvig), Wilson.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21 at Riverview Cemetery, the Rev. Robert E. Johnson officiated.
The Goodrich Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
