Gib was born July 26, 1923, in Coal Bluff, Ind., to Arizona "Dutch" and Louisa Jane (Wright) Archer.
As a child he worked with his father in the coal mines as a boilermaker. At the age of 17, he began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad, leaving in 1950 to marry Ruby Marlin Feb. 26, 1950. He began working for Arktex Clay Plant the same year and 30 years later joined Distributor Terminal, Terre Haute, and most recently he worked for Wal-Mart. He was an accomplished carpenter building two of the houses that his family lived in. He also was an accomplished clock maker and gunsmith. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was never without a story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dutch and Jane Archer, brothers Chester Archer, Cecil Archer, Tom Archer, Kenneth Archer and Richard Archer.
He is survived by his wife Ruby, daughter Reba Bryan and husband Robert, Carbon, five sons: Gilbert Archer Jr. and wife Penny, Terre Haute, Thomas Archer and wife Linda, Carbon, Mark Archer, Carbon, and Casey Archer and wife Donna, Carbon, and Tracy Archer, Carbon, nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, one sister Emma Jane Krider and husband Roy, Brazil as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
