Farmer came to Columbia County when he was 10 years old. His parents were among the first to turn the virgin sod on Eckler mountain and he grew up on the homestead around which he developed a successful wheat ranch on lands that were dense forests in his earliest recollections.
In a brief summation of the character of Farmer Bowen, Mr. Cahill said. "He practiced the homely virtures of frugality, sobriety and honesty. His integrity was without question, and his word was as good as his bond."
