According to the Plymouth Reporter, Plymouth, Wisconsin dated 12/10/1872, Orra Carter was manufacturing straw hats which sold readily in 1849.
Orra also took first premium on bed-quilts at the first Agricultural Fair ever held in Sheboygan county 1851. This was before she married William S. Bowen.
After their marriage they came west in 1873.
