She attended Kenmare High School, (1919) and Minot State College, where she received her North Dakota Standard Life Teaching Certificate, and finally a degree from Mary College in Bismarck, ND in 1967. Mildred taught school at Vanville, Spencer Township and Hartland, ND. While teaching in Hartland, she met her future husband, Kenneth Johnson.
Mildred was married on Sept. 19, 1925 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, Ward County, ND to (1) R.(Rudolph) Kenneth Johnson born Aug. 29, 1901 in Cokato, Minnesota, son of Ole Johnson and Olina. A wedding supper was served at the home of the bride's sister, Anna Christensen Nelsen of Kenmare, ND.
Kenneth owned a business in Maddock, ND. In 1958 he died of a heart attack in Devils Lake, ND.
In 1958 Mildred moved to Bismarck, ND and married widower (2) Lyman Horn b. Jan, 22 1902,an Accountant in Bismarck. He had three grown children: two sons, Kendal and Ronald D. Horn,and one daughter by his first marriage, Bonnie Horn. Lyman and died Mar 1971 in Bismarck, Burleigh County, North Dakota.
In Bismarck, ND she continued her teaching career in the field of Special Education. In 1967 she was hired as Director of the Learning Disabilities Program in the Bismarck School System. During the summer months she worked as a Home Management Consultant in the Bismarck, Linton and Strasburg, ND Head Start Programs.
Mildred traveled, gardened, walked a lot, painted with water colors, read, tutored, and attended a class now and then. She volunteered at church and was interested in keeping track of the Christensen's and Johnson's lines.
She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND next to Charlotte Peterson Christensen, wife of Christian Christensen.
