Married January 26, 1908. John Maggard is the son of Jesse Maggard and Nancy Johnson Maggard. His funeral was conducted Roberts Funeral home with Bro. Herman Isaacs and Arthur Essary officiating.

At the time of John's death he left behind his wife Bell and 5 sons: Floyd Maggard, Ancil Maggard, Ed Maggard, Neil Maggard, Kenneth Maggard; 3 daughters:Lodema Sweet, Lora Dotson, Lovada Winn. Three brothers: Andy Maggard, Bill Maggard, Kirby Maggard. One Sister: Martha Sanders. 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.-Funeral Card

I was born after my grandfather died in 1969 but was told many a hunting story about him and how he had his hands full keeping his boys out of mischief. The Maggard men were greatly known for their practical jokes (back when they were fun). I was told about a hunting trip with his daughter Lora where they encountered a ghost walking in the woods with them and the ghost was dragging chains. It was a great bedtime story told to me by my mother Lovada. John farmed most all of his life and grew a large family. He has been very missed and thought of most affectionately by all the family over the years.
