Henry George Martin was born on Guernsey in the Channel Islands. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Stephen Touzeau Martin & Anna Elizabeth Sarchet. His mother died when he was four years old. His father brought the family to America and settled in Nebraska in the 1870's.
In 1898, he volunteered to serve in the Spanish-American War. He was wounded and received a medical discharge.
He married Clara E. Morrison of Linda, Kansas in 1901. They had three sons, Claude, Henry G., & Verne S. In 1926 the family moved to California residing in West Los Angeles until his death.
