FIELDING, Russel Vernon - 87, passed away May 17, 2009. Born on Onslow Mountain, he was a son of the late Eugene and Ethel (Crowe) Fielding. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Canadian Army. He worked several years for Lewis Ltd. in Truro and then went to work for CN Express as a truck driver. After retiring, he spent many summers at "the cottage" in Economy. His greatest joy was his family and he was always happiest when they were around. He loved to play cards and his laugh was infectious. He was a "Mr. Fix - It" always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. In his later years, his passion was the Truro Junior A Bearcats where he held season tickets. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise (Peppard); sons, Russell (Adriana), Truro; Allan (Lynn), Economy; sisters, Rita (Frank) Rice, Julia Blackmore, Shelia (Kelly) Callahan, Marilyn (James) Waller, Barbara Atkinson, Hazel Delaney; brothers, Fred (Helen) and Jack; aunt, Celia Lynds; grandchildren, Jennifer Louise and Catherine Anne (Ashley); stepgrandchildren, Dawn, James and Justin; several great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers, Gerald in infancy, and Sherman; grandson, Robert Lee in infancy. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 20, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 21, at 3 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Eugene MacNutt officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester Regional Hospital Palliative Care or charity of choice.
