He began work at a very early age to help his widowed mother wh ohad seven children to feed. He began work at Stonewall Cotton Mill, later moved to Laurel and worked in the Cotton Mill there. Then the family moved to Meridian where he worked for
Alden Knitting Mills. He died of influenza and pneumonia. His mother had died 10 days earlier on 21 January 1940.
