Born on July 12, 1937, in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Durling and Alice (Stetler) Ace and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. In his earlier years he worked at the former Line Material in East Stroudsburg and then at Schoch's Exxon and Harley Davidson in Snydersville. Bob retired as street superintendant for East Stroudsburg Borough.
He was an honorary fireman of the Acme Hose Company in East Stroudsburg. He was an avid race fan and hunter and enjoyed doing small engine repair.
Surviving are four children, Brian D. Ace Sr. of Stroudsburg, Robert S. Ace, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda of Saylorsburg, Michael A. Gilliland of East Stroudsburg and Richard L. Gilliland and his wife, Adelaide of Granville Summit; five siblings, Kenneth Ace and his wife, Margaret of Stroudsburg, Harold Ace and his wife, Sara Mae of Bushkill, Mary Frantz and her husband, Alfred of East Stroudsburg, Evelyn Kindrew of Snydersville and Berneda VanWhy of Saylorsburg; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Nicholas S. Gilliland and Victor C. Gilliland; and five siblings, Clarence Ace, Durling Ace, Jr., Richard Ace, Iva Hineline and Janet Schouppe.
There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Candy LaBar officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.
