LEANDER MIRISE EXPIRES AT ROSCOE
One of Roscoe's most prominent citizens, Leander Mirise, died this morning at one o'clock after an illness of two weeks. Had he lived one day longer he would have reached the age of fifty eight years. For a long time Mr. Mirise had suffered with catarrhal trouble and at different times had been troubled with a gathering in his head. Two weeks ago he became ill with the same malady and the gathering broke Wednesday but this time the pressure on the brain was not relieved. He was able to be up and around the yard until Thursday afternoon and seemed to be improving. He suddenly became worse. From then until the hour of his death he became perfectly rigid and unconscious. Meningitis was the direct cause of his death. Leander Mirise lived practically all of his life in Roscoe not far from the cemetery where his remains will be interred. He was a jovial, kindhearted man, devoted to his family and blessed with many friends. By occupation he was a farmer and teamster and contracted for stone work. He accompanied his father as assistant teamster during the Civil War although he never enlisted in the government service. Mr. Mirise was married twice. His first wife, who died Feb. 10, 1899, was Miss Sophia Schott. He afterwards married Miss Hattie Jewell, of Harrison County, who still survives him. He was a prominent member of the Odd Fellows lodge and they had charge of the funeral services which were held at the Roscoe M. E. Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Mr. Mirise is survived by three sons, Lewis, Clifford and Paul. Clifford resides in this city. There are also two surviving brothers and two sisters as follows: John Mirise, of Roscoe; Mrs. Mollie Wells of Manhattan, Kans; Frank Mirise and Mrs. Jane Hughes, both living near Colorado Springs, Colo.
