Stephen was born in Maine and came with his parents Stephen W. Doughty and Abigail Austin in 1817 to Lincoln Delaware County Ohio. Married Nancy Gardiner/Gardner. Nancy is buried Ashley Cemetery, Ashley, OH. Issue: Harriet, m. Henry L. Cross; Riley m. Mary A. Gardner; Isaiah m. Clarissa Stateler, 2m. Elizabeth Stateler, 3.m. Ellen Fox; John Gardner m. Nicy Clay; William Austin; Abigail m. Valorus Pond; George Washington m. Mathena Owen; Hannah Minerva m. Stephen C. Corey, Wm. Harrison m. Phebe Benedict, 2m. Mary Carpenter and Josephus m. Milly Baxter, 2m. Mary Pierce. Stephen never recovered from tragic death of his young son William Austin Doughty.
The place of burial for Stephen's father has not been found. He died after signing a deed selling water rights 11 March 1839 and before 1840 Census. Stephen and Abigail signed the deed. The story in Doty families in Morrow County say he was buried in "the lost Gardner Cemetery " thought to be by Alum Creek. Story in Doty family in Wisconsin is Stephen died while on a trip to Wisconsin.
I copied the inscription on his stone when I was there in 1982.
