Son of Stephen W. & Nancy (Gardner) Doty. Wagon maker by trade set up shop in South Woodbury and attended the Methodist Church. Married Nicy Clay in 1849 and had one son and three daughters.Served in the 85th OVI and later in the 88th OVI. John and Nicy had four children, Ansyl Doty, Della (Doty) wife of Frank S. Osborn, Bertha Doty who never married and Mary Artie (Doty) who married Daniel H. Wolff. Nicy died in 1872 and John married Roxie Powers and moved to Ashley Ohio. John and Roxie had two daughters Laura Lucy (Doty) Bailey buried at Alum Creek Friends. and Ella who married Henry J. Olmstead.
