Mrs. Hattie Crowder Calton, 104, of Polk County, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Hospice of Forest City.
She was born June 12, 1903, in Lawndale, to William Albert Crowder and Marietta Boggs Crowder.
Her husband, Aubrey L. Calton Sr., three brothers and six sisters, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Calton and her husband were longtime residents of Lattimore in Cleveland County before moving to Polk County in 1969.
Prior to her marriage in 1927, she attended Boiling Springs School, which later became Gardner-Webb, and Limestone College.
Hattie was a devoted mother and homemaker.
She often traveled with her husband, helping him and supporting him in his work. She was instrumental in organizing church libraries and served as church librarian for more than 50 years for Double Springs Baptist Church in Cleveland County and Green Creek First Baptist Church in Polk County, where she has been a member since 1969.
Miss Hattie is lovingly remembered for her tireless efforts as church librarian, singing as she worked, enormous Sunday dinners at a big table and her famous chocolate chip cookies.
She loved people, good food, sunsets, cooking, gardening, natures beauty and being the best person she could be.
