Obituary
Phineas Kenyon "The death of Capt. Phineas Kenyon, one of St. Clair County's most popular and widely known men, occurred at his home in East China this morning. The captain had been ailing for some time. Phineas Kenyon was born in York State, Bolton County (Bolton, Warren County) on October 2, 1826, being 84 years 5 months and 2 days of age at his death. He was the youngest of seven children who came to Michigan in the year 1832 from New York State and at a young age he took to sailing, becoming master of both freight and passenger boats. He sailed up to 26 years ago when he retired to his farm where he has since resided. Capt. Kenyon was the father of 8 children, of which four are living, Miss Minnie, Capt. William and Sherwood, of St. Clair, and John of Port Huron. Captian Kenyon sailed the old steamer Milton D. Ward for 15 years. This boat plied between Port Huron and Detroit for years and was engaged in the frieght and passenger traffic. Mr. Kenyon had resided on the farm on which he died ever since 1832. The funeral will be held from the late residence of the deceased on Monday afternoon, next, at 1:30 standard time. Friends attending the funeral service should leave the cars at Hawthorn station." - Source: Times Herald, Saturday, 04-MAR-1911
