MYRON KENYON, age 8, came with his father, PHINEAS D. KENYON and family, from the town of Bolton, Warren County, New York on the banks of Lake George arriving by boat at Detroit, Michigan in December 1832. Due to the cholera outbreak in the region they were not allowed to disembark. Along with 3 other families, 36 in all, they were taken by boat to Saint (St.) Clair County on the banks of St. Clair River at China Township the evening of December 15, 1832. PHINEAS D. KENYON, purchased land in China Township, Aug 1837, W1/2 SW Sec. 11, T4N R15E, 80 acres.
MYRON was a sailor on the Great Lakes for a brief period and by 1845 was intent on farming eventually acquiring 300 acres on south side of Puttygut Road, to include parcels in Sec. 13, 14 and 15 which lay north of Belle River. He cleared the 140 acres of land in Section 13 of timber, cutting and hauling wood at $1 per cord. He earned the reputation of the greatest chopper in this part of the country and cut a cord of wood in fifty five minutes from a standing tree.
MYRON was married 3 times: 1st wife, Barbara Mitchell, died in 1852, leaving one daughter, Blanche, who married John D. Chamberlin. His 2nd wife, Sarah Mitchell, died in 1856 leaving one daughter, Maria, who married Thomas Wood. His 3rd wife, Catherine Stewart, the widow of William White with one daughter, Sarah White, was from New York. Together, they had 2 children, Seneca Kenyon and Mary Castelia "Teal" Kenyon who married Duncan M. Smith.
MYRON was a partner with Langell, Jenks and Roberson in the St. Clair Navigation Company with ownership in several boats that plied the Great Lakes.
MYRON was Director of Farmers Mutual Insurance Company for five years.
