"St. Clair Man Dies On Boat-- Second Mate Kenyon of the Steamer Taurus Passes Away Suddenly -- Second Mate John V. Kenyon, of the steamer Taurus died suddenly on the steamer shortly after the boat left the Soo. The Taurus locked through at 4:30 p.m. July 4th and at that time Kenyon appeared as well as usual. The body was taken off at Detour and brought to the Soo this morning. It will be sent to his home in St. Clair, Mich." (Port Huron Times Herald, Sat. July 5, 1913)
"The funeral of the late Capt. John Kenyon of Hawthorne was held from the late residence to the Hawthorne Cemetery under the auspices of Port Huron Lodge IOOF this afternoon." (Port Huron Times Herald, July 8, 1913) Note that Hawthorne refers to a locality along the St. Clair River in East China Township north of Remer Road, and Hawthorne Cemetery refers to Rose Hill Cemetery.
