R. Ernest Beaty, 94, died Saturday morning in a Columbia Hospital after a short illness.

Graveside funeral services were Monday at 2:30 pm in the churchyard of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating was the Rev. Melvin R. Hyman, and burial followed under the direction of the Mayer Funeral Home.

Mr. Beaty was born in Conway on Dec. 19, 1882, a son of the late Edgar Robert Beaty and Mrs. Emma Jane Collins Beaty. He was a civil engineer, and worked in New York, Mexico, and South Carolina, prior to returning to Georgetown in 1940 to make his home. Mr. Beaty was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church, and a member of the American Society of Engineers.

Surviving are his widow Mrs. Virginia Byrd Beaty of Georgetown and Columbia; a brother Julian B. Beaty of New York City; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma B. Thomas of Georgetown, and Mrs. Edna B. West of Ruskin FLA.
