Robert Frank Cowin, 66, well-known retired Shelby County farmer, died at a hospital in Madison, Indiana yesterday at 4:30pm, after an illness of several months. Death was due to a complication of diseases.
Mr. Cowin was born in Shelby County, Indiana on June 2, 1882, the son of Elijah and Ella(Bontz)Cowin. His wife, Nora Lee Cowin, of Shelbyville, Indiana preceded him in death on November 17, 1947.
Nine children were born to the union, six of whom survive. They are Mrs. Cora Gill, Shelbyville, Indiana; John Cowin, Washington Township, Shelby County, Indiana; Mrs. William Archey, Rush County, Indiana; Mrs. Leo Kohler, Connersville, Indiana; Mrs. Ray Berry, Lawton, West Virginia; and Mrs. Maxine Robbins , Johnson County, Indiana. Two brothers, Wilfred Cowin of Marion, Indiana and Elmer Cowin of Pensylvania. Two Step-sons; Hollis Snyder, of Jennings County, Indiana, and Raymond McDonald , of Decatur County, Indiana; five grandchildren and four step-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Cowin will be held at the Murphy Mortuary at 10am Friday with Rev. Clarence Hager officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery, Shelby County, Indiana. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Thurdsay.
