Gordon Stout, 25, 1852 Park St., who suffered severe burns in an explosion Wednesday afternoon died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in a Salt Lake Hospital.
Mr. Stout and his brother Kenneth Stout, 21, were burned in a flash explosion when a spark from their welding torch fell into a can of blasting powder beneath the bench on which they were working at 1210 Major St. Kenneth is convalescing in Holy Cross Hospital.
Hero of War
A son of Walter and Mary Workman Stout, Gordon was born on April 12, 1921, in Hurricane, Washington County, Utah. A graduate of Hurricane High School, he joined the army air forces in August 1943, completing 25 missions over Germany as an engineer on a B-17. In addition to the Distinguished Flying Cross he held the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters.
He had been employed at the Bender-Stoll Body Company since his discharge from the service in October , 1945. Mr. Stout was an active member of the Harvard Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints . On September 29 1945 he married Mary Thomas of Deadwood, South Dakota.
Funeral Wednesday
In addition to his parents and widow, Mr. Stout is survived by a daughter, Karon Jo, Salt Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Wealthy Heywood and Mrs. Vinetta Wright, Hurricane; seven brothers, Clayton Stout, Clearfield, Utah, Asael Stout, Henderson, Nevada, Delworth Stout, Cedar City, Utah, Kenneth R. Dean, Alma and Lloyd Stout, of Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held in the Harvard Ward Chapel at noon with Bishop Walter W. Hunter officiating. Friends may call Wednesday morning until time of services at 2128 South State Street.
