Staff Sgt. Donald Eugene Cornwell 68, Columbia, died Tuesday Sept 23,2003 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital. Born in Elwood he was the son of the late Benjamin and Alice L. Luse Cornwell. He had been a resident of Columbia since 1977 and retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He also retired from the U.S. Army with 23 years of service,having served in Vietnam. Surviving are his wife of 43 years Christel Cornwell, three daughters Sharon Cornwell of Columbia, Corenna Dopkowski(Gerald) of Booneville,NC. and Amy Patton of Yadkinville,NC., a son Daniel Cornwell of Cloumbia, three brothers; Neal Cornwell(Ethel) of Elwood, Jack Cornwell(Juanita) of Chesterfield and Richard Cornwell of Arizona, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Staff Sgt. Cornwell was predeceased by a brother Bob Cornwell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev Keith Kannenburg officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, active pallbearers will be the U.S. Army, the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
