Ruth Ellen Newcomer, 90, of Railroad Street, Wakarusa, IN, died at 7:12p.m. Monday (April 13, 2009) in Elkkhart General Hospital.
She was born Feb 15, 1919 in Wakarusa to Clarence and Minnie (Wogomon) Smeltzer. On March 2, 1941, she married Dwright Newcomer. He died Nov 10, 1990.
Mrs. Newcomer is survived by two sons, Rollin (Loretta) Newcomer of Wakarusa and Paul L (Kathleen) Newcomer of Toto; two daughters, Mary Jean (Marvin) Troyer of Fairview, MI, and Carolyn (Harvey) Hochstetler of Pickle Lake, Ontario, Canada; 15 grandchildren; one sister, Melba (Frank) Williams of Wakarusa; three brothers, Dale Smeltzer of Phoenix, AZ, Clifford Smeltzer of Elkhart and David (Merilee) Smeltzer of San Jose, CA; and one sister-in-law, Judy Smeltzer of Wakarusa.
She was preceded in death by three siblings, Viola, Glenn and Roy Smeltzer; and one granddaughter, Angela Troyer.
Ruth worked as a nurse's aide and in the kitchen at LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee. She was a member of Salem Mennonite Church, and a 1937 graduate of Wakarusa High School.
Officiating the service that was held Friday, Apr 17,2009 at Salem Mennonite Church were Jerry Helmuth and Terrill Yoder officiated. Owen Martin officiated at the grave site, following the service. Reith-Rohrer-Ehet-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa assisted with arrangements.
Memorials may be given to World Missionary Press or Salem Mennonite Church.
