WAKARUSA - Glenn K. Smeltzer, 73, of 106 Westgate Blvd., Wakarusa, died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, June 22nd, in his home after a one-year battle with cancer. He was born May 26, 1935, in Wakarusa, to Clarence and Mary Yoder Smeltzer. He was a 1953 graduate of Wakarusa High School and a lifetime resident of Wakarusa. On September 25, 1955, he married Judy Sheets in Elkhart. She survives with a son, James (Karen) Smeltzer, Noblesbille; a daughter, Jill (Randy) Hughes, Wakarusa; four grandchildren and a great-grandson; two sisters, Melba (Frank) Williams and Ruth Newcomer, both of Wakarusa; three brothers, Dale Smeltzer of Traverse City, MI, Clifford Smeltzer of Goshen and David (Merrilee) Smeltzer of San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Smeltzer. Mr. Smeltzer had worked at NIBCO from 1953-1969 and was publisher of the Wakarusa Tribune from 1970-1980. He was a member of the Wakarusa Lions Club for over 40 years, and attended Wakarusa United Methodist Church. Private funeral services will be held for the family at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa, followed by burial at Olive West Cemetery. Rev. Ed Geleske, pastor of Wakarusa United Methodist Church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family would request memorial contributions be made to the Wakarusa Lions Club in care of Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, P.O. Box 388, Wakarusa, IN 46573.
