FOUNDER OF BURTON ESTABLISHMENTS DEAD

W.W. Burton Dies at His Home in Ogden Yesterday Morning A Star Valley Pioneer.

About nine o'clock yesterday morning word was received here of the death of W.m W. Burton formerly of this place, but now of Ogden, Utah. for the past few weeks Mr. Burton has been gradually declining in health and his death, as death always does, comes as a great sadness, but not as a shock to his family here.
In the passing of Mr. Burton, the valley loses a man who, from every point of view, was a true pillar to this community. His life covers an unusually interesting field, as he was temporally, morally and spiritually a great power and factor wherever he lived during this sphere of action.
William Watton Burton was born in Bradford Yordshire, England on March 23, 1833, where he espoused the faith of the Latter day Saints, and for that cause immigrated to America during the year 1852. Before leaving England he did extensive missionary and ecclesiastical work for the faith he represented, and was met with a great deal of opposition which he bravely wothstood thru his loyalty to his religious principles.
Upon his arrival in Salt Lake City in September 1854 he secured a position teaching school, and later he moved to Ogden, where he followed that vocation for several years. He finally became supervisor or principal of schools in that locality, which position he filled with honor and trust for a long period of time. He was also affiliated with civil affairs while in Ogden, being a member of the city council of that place.
During the year of 1886 Mr Burton came to star valley, and the splended organizations of the Burton Mercantile and Creamery Companies here are mute testimonials of his real worth as a civic improver.
In a religious capacity Mr. Burton was counsellor to the late Stake President, george Osmond, for years, until Mr. Osmond's deat, left a large posterity here to morn his loss and to follow his illustrious example. During the early and uncertain conditions of the valley Mr. Burton had absolute confidence as to the great future of this common wealth and bravely weathered the worst, with a definite purpose of future development.
It can be truly said of Mr Burton when one views the many evidences of his former materialized ideals, that he "being dead still speaketh" as can only be said of men who have been great and worthy and have wielded a powerful influence for good. Mr. Burton also possessed very fine literary talent, and has left a number of very choice gems of poetry and song to be cherished as memorials by his posterity now in his sacred passing from their midst.
The surviving children in the valley at present are: Heber F., Thos. F., Arthur F., Christopher F, Mrs Clarence Gardner, Wilford F., and George F.
Interment will be made in Ogden Sunday afternoon., The sympathy of the community is extended to the family in their bereavement of the loss of a wise counselor and noble father.
