Lee R. Steward, 71, lifelong resident of Richland County, passed away early Sunday morning at the Richland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Steward was born the son of John Steward and Clara Hill Steward.

He was married to Lulu Bostic on August 19, 1917.

He followed barbering as his trade and operated his own shop in Olney for many years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a member of the 140th Armored Division. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 30 and a charter member of Olney Lodge No. 1372 Loyal Order of Moose.

He leaves his wife, Lulu, a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Battistella of Mattoon, and 4 grandchildren.
Other survivors are 2 sisters: Mrs. Margaret Schonert of Claremont and Mrs. Frances Jones of Pierre, SD; half-siblings, Miss Anna Steward and Miss Adah Steward both of Olney, Mrs. Pauline Quillen of Parkersburg, Albert Steward of Chicago, Woodrow Steward of Newton, and Edward Steward of Vincennes, Ind.

Funeral services for Mr. Steward will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Memorial Chapel of the SummerRainey Funeral Home with the Rev. Fr. Vincent Hazelhorst officiating. Interment with full military honors by the Olney Veteran organizations will in Haven Hill Cemetery.
