He was a native of Joyce, a member of the Church of Christ and a cabinet maker.
Survivors include his wife, Lessie Townsend of Winnfield; two sons, Charles Townsend of Brookings, S.D., and Jim Townsend of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Eleanor Hawkins of Lafayette; two brothers, Hardy Townsend and Stanley Townsend of Shreveport; two sisters, Jean Wilks of Lovington, N.M., and Ann Jones of Shreveport; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were to be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Southern, Winnfield, with the Revs. Willie James and Don Anyon officiating. Burial was to be in Garden of Memories.
