"John M. West, Jr., well-known in this part of the state as a trainer and judge of horses and a veteran automobile salesman, died suddenly early this morning at his home, 722-1/2 Jackson street, at the age of 72. Mr. West had not been in failing health. He became ill about 2 a.m. today and died an hour later.

He was born May 17, 1883, at Humphreys, a son of John M. and Emily (Dunlap) West. Mr. West attended schools in the Humphreys area and on Dec. 24, 1910, married the former Miss Flo Ellen Lightner. He farmed some in the 1920s.

Mr. West's lifetime hobby was horses, which he trained himself and showed actively until a few years ago. He was active as a judge and last summer officiated at horse shows at Tina and Trenton. He was an automobile salesman for Chillicothe dealers and also sold cars of his own. At the time of his death, Mr. West was a salesman for F. A. Lionberger.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 1, from the E. J. Robertson Funeral Home at Chula with burial to be in Plainview Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. B. S. Owens will conduct the memorial rites and a rosary will be said at the time of the services.

West of Chillicothe; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nove May of Humphreys and Mrs. Cliff Fisher of Osgood; and one brother, James West of Maple Fork, Ill.
