Joe worked for the State of North Carolina, first at the State Prison in Raleigh (c. 1900) and later for the State Hospital in Raleigh (c. 1920). He married Caroline "Carrie" Conn about 1903 and they resided in Raleigh where they became parents to 3 known children: Mary Cameron (c. 1904), Joseph T. (c. 1910), and Julia K. (c. 1913).
Joe was widowed in 1946 when his wife died at about age 68. He survived another 5 years, passing in 1951 at age 82.
