He was the paternal grandson of David Honeycutt, believed to have come to NC from Prince George Co, VA, ca. 1793 and married Susan (surname unknown) of Wake County.
David's father, David Perrin Honeycut(t), died in 1858, and he and his older brothers managed the farm for their widowed mother until Civil War broke out in May 1861, and all 3 brothers enlisted. Older brothers Bartlet & Rufus both joined the NC 31st, Company C, while David joined the "Clayton Yellow Jackets" NC 24th, Co C. on May 15, 1861 when he was 22 years old mustering in as a Corporal, but reduced to ranks on May 8, 1862. He was present and accounted for through December 1863, and paroled in Raleigh on April 22, 1865.
Following the war, David and Rufus were the only brother to make it back home. (Bartlet was killed in the war, and Rufus Honeycutt was reported as a deserter in August, 1864, but later settled in Apex where he married and had child(ren).) In about 1865 David married Catherine "Katie" Whitley and continued farming in the St. Mary's area where they became parents to 5 known children: John W. (1866), Joseph D. (1868), Lorena/Lenora (1870), Daniel B. (1875), and Haywood Hinton (1880).
David was widowed in 1906 when his wife of 41 years passed at age 68. He married again in 1908 to a woman named Anabella (or Ammalis), when he was about age 70, and she 52.
David Albert Honeycutt died in 1921 at age 82 and was buried with his first wife. It is not known what became of his second wife.
