The fifth daughter of Jackson and Nancy (Lemasters) Braden, Marietta grew up on her father's farm in Clay township of Decatur Co., IN, where she had been born. She married, first, Aug. 22, 1854, in that place, Hampton Denman. She married, secondly, Jan. 10, 1858 in Decatur Co., IN, James M. Gilman, and thirdly, in Colorado Springs, CO, in 1881, James Roberts.

One daughter, Augusta Ellen, was born to the Denman union.

Following her marriage to Mr. Gilman, Marietta and her family lived in Warren Co., IA. Three daughters, Susan, Euphemia and Ida, and one son, Michael Jackson, were born to Marietta and Jim Gilman.

Marietta and her children returned to Decatur Co., IN prior to 1870. Shortly, thereafter, Marietta relocated to CO, where she and her two youngest children, resided with her married daughter Euphemia (Gilman) Casteel.

In 1881, Marietta married James Roberts, a Justice of the Peace in Colorado City, CO. The Roberts lived in Colorado Springs for the remainder of their lives.
