Aaron R.(sic) McCowan, husband of Anna M. Sellers McCowan, Downingtown, died at his late residence, 401 Pennsylvania ave., Downingtown, last evening after an illness of two weeks. He was in his 79th year.
Born at Compass, he was the son of the late Zachary T. and Elizabeth Ranck McCowan. He had resided in Downingtown the past 40 years. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company as freight conductor for 43 years. He was retired in 1943.
Following his retirement, he was employed at the Coatesville Plate Washer Company.
He was a member of the Central Presbyterian church, Downingtown, Independent Order of Redmen of Philadelphia and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Loyal Order of Moose, Downingtown Lodge 1153 and the Benevolent Order of Eagles, Harrisburg.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: Helen M., wife of Norman E. Algier, Lancaster; Eleanor M., wife of Thomas McDougal, of Downingtown; Mildred B., wife of Howard Ingram, Downingtown; Aaron T., Coatesville, and the following sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Singer, Media; Mrs. Ruth Cairns, Philadelphia; Miss Naomi McCowan, Atlantic City; also seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from Towson Funeral Home, 43 W. Lancaster ave., Downingtown, Monday at 2 p.m. with interment in Northwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening.
