Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Union Hill, Johnston County, Okla., the daughter of Isam and Vina Victoria Tudor Campbell, Mrs. McNeely passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta.
Verna moved to the Enville community as a very young child. She married James F. McNeely on Dec. 24, 1947, in Gainesville, Texas, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2008.
After living in Friona for many years and raising their eight children, Verna and James returned to Love County in 1988. They attended the Lebanon Church of Christ where Verna was known for her sweet smile and strong singing voice.
She is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Brenda McNeely of Weatherford, Texas, Roger and Cindy McNeely of Needville, Texas, Sammy and Sue McNeely of Cleveland, Texas, Paul and Kathy McNeely of Splendora, Texas, Justin and Deloris McNeely of Hereford, Texas, and Joseph and Deanna McNeely of Lone Grove, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vernetta and J.T. Eddins of Splendora and Linda and Brian Evans of Friona, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Anna Campbell of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Jack and Pearl Campbell of Marietta; sister, Ruby Stanley of the Greenville community; and three sisters-in-law, Arlene Campbell of Marietta, Onema Campbell of Overbrook, Okla., and Ledgia Campbell of Marietta.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. McNeely was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jeremy McNeely; three brothers, Willie Campbell, Holly Campbell and Graham Campbell; and brother-in-law, Alfred Stanley.
Serving as bearers will be Clancy Hallum, Tim Campbell, Charles Campbell, Rayford Hallum, Terry Stanley and Windell Goddin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and grateful appreciation to the doctors and hospital staff of Ardmore and Marietta, especially the nurses of 3 West and the Mercy House of Ardmore. The loving care that was given to Mom and all the family was beyond reproach.
