He married Daisy Belle Parker (1911-2014) on April 8, 1931 in Indianapolis, Marion Co, Indiana. (NOTE: Daisy (now Schoolcraft) was still living April 14, 2012 when she attended their son, Eddie's funeral.)
Their children: Carol Frances Wheat and James Edwin 'Ed' Akard (1940-2012).

He was employed as equipment supervisor for Bell Telephone Company for 27 years and at the time of his death was at the Chapel exchange, formerly assigned to the State and Tucker exchanges.
He was a resident of Greenwood for 27 years. Jim was a member of the Prospect Lodge, F & AM; also a member of the Shrine, Scottish Rite, Pin Club and Pioneers at the Indiana Bell Telephone Company.
His wife, Daisy; a daughter, Mrs Carol Wheat; a son, James Akard, both of Greenwood; and a foster son, Duayne Early of Dayton, Ohio, survive.
Also remaining are five grandchildren; and two sisters: Mrs Leona Fulford of Southport; and Mrs Dorothy Epstein of Chicago; and a brother, George Akard of Petersburg.
Jim died at the age of 55 years 3 months 29 days. He suffered a heart attack at work.
