Evelyn Boone McKinney, 82, of Grace Ridge, Morganton, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, following a period of declining health She was born on July 11, 1923, in Yancey County and was a daughter of the late Milton and Minnie Murphy Boone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Harold McKinney, a brother, Daniel Boone and a sister, Doris Morgan. During World War II, Evelyn tested jet engines for the U.S. Air Force at Langley Field. Mrs. McKinney was a licensed physical therapy assistant and a retired employee of J. Iverson Riddle Development Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Dorcas Sunday school class. Surviving are her sons and their wives, Harold and Cathy McKinney of Boone and Mark and Lisa McKinney of Tallahassee, Fla.; brother, Paul Boone of Rebels Creek; sisters, Georgia Jarrett of Rebels Creek, Wanda Dale and Rene Bell, both of Marion, Naomi Dellinger of Spruce Pine, Katie Wilson of Woodleaf, Florabelle Phillips of Badin Lake and Loretta McKinney of Hickory; and grandchildren, Christopher, Moriah, Brittainy and Trenton McKinney.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church . The Rev. Dr. Thomas Bland officiated. Burial followed at Greene-Young Cemetery in Bakersville.
Sossoman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
